Welcome to the website of the New Jersey CPA Political Action Committee.

The New Jersey CPA Political Action Committee (NJ-CPA-PAC) allows CPAs in New Jersey to pool their resources to help elect candidates for state office who demonstrate a positive concern for those issues important to the CPA profession. It is not affiliated with any political party and is organized and operated on a non-partisan, independent basis. Contributing to the NJ-CPA-PAC is one of the easiest and most effective ways for CPAs to get involved in the political process and have an impact on the CPA profession.

Now, more than ever, it is important for every CPA in the state to join the NJ-CPA-PAC. It's in your own interest to join. It's the NJ-CPA-PAC that works to protect our profession, fighting unfair legislation that would hinder the ability of CPAs to practice their profession and to serve clients and the businesses they work for. You can't afford to bury your head in the sand.

A bipartisan organization, the NJ-CPA-PAC supports candidates for state office who are committed to the issues important to the CPA profession. It also provides a mechanism for launching grassroots campaigns in support of the profession's legislative priorities.

It is extremely important for all New Jersey CPAs to join the NJ-CPA-PAC by making a contribution. If you have not yet contributed, click here for more information on how you can join. You can't afford not to. Remember, we can only protect our profession with your active support.

The NJ-CPA-PAC, a non-profit entity incorporated in 1977, is not a part of the New Jersey Society of CPAs. Its funding comes solely from the voluntary contributions of CPAs.

The NJ-CPA-PAC strictly follows all state and federal laws and files quarterly and annual reports with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.

Please note that contributions to the NJ-CPA-PAC are not tax deductible.

Why get involved in the NJ-CPA-PAC?
The NJ-CPA-PAC is the only organization in New Jersey dedicated solely to fighting for the interests of CPAs. Examples of some of the critical issues that the NJ-CPA-PAC has successfully worked on include:

Beat back several attempts by lawmakers to pass a sales tax on professional services.
Passage of major CBT reform measures including extending NOL carryovers from 7-20 years and repealing NJ’s onerous “regular place of business” and “throwout” rules.
Passage of CPA Mobility Legislation
Defeat of an attempt to place an annual $50 surcharge on CPA license fees to fund a medical malpractice fund
Defeat of several bills that would have created new classes of accountants

Who can be a member of the NJ-CPA-PAC?
Any person holding a valid CPA certificate can be a member of the NJ-CPA-PAC. Membership is on an annual basis. The suggested annual contribution is $75. However, any size contribution automatically makes a CPA a member of the committee.

Who runs the NJ-CPA-PAC?
A 12-member Board of Trustees acts as the governing board for the NJ-CPA-PAC. All Trustees must be members of the NJ-CPA-PAC and must be sustaining members of the Committee. Furthermore, as provided for in its bylaws, all of the Trustees must serve without pay.

Every member of the NJ-CPA-PAC may attend the Board meetings and provide input into NJ-CPA-PAC activities and initiatives. These meetings are generally held three to four times a year. See a list of upcoming meetings.

What does the NJ-CPA-PAC do?
Contributions to the NJ-CPA-PAC are used to provide financial support to candidates for state office who have demonstrated a concern for the issues important to the CPA profession.

How does the NJ-CPA-PAC decide on which candidates to support?
Contributions to candidates are based on several factors, including political research conducted by the NJ-CPA-PAC and the NJSCPA, input provided by the NJSCPA's Trenton-based lobbying firm and the insights provided by you, local CPAs concerned with the electoral and legislative processes. This research and input includes an assessment of a candidate's position on issues that impact CPAs in New Jersey, an objective assessment of a candidate's "electability," and the relative ability of the legislator to impact the profession via his or her legislative committee assignments and/or leadership position.

How do you become a member of the NJ-CPA-PAC?
Contributions to the NJ-CPA-PAC are entirely voluntary. You do not need to be a member of the NJSCPA to make a contribution to the NJ-CPA-PAC and conversely, contributions to the NJ-CPA-PAC are not a requirement for membership in the NJSCPA. Click here to make a contribution.
