OVERVIEW

HIGHLIGHTS

Issues, Trends and the Best Accounting Practices in Eldercare
Issues related to our growing aged population will have a significant impact on accounting and tax practices in the future. The first part of the program will include a technical update on trends in elder law including financing long term care, income tax deductions and costs associated with asset protection. The second part of the program will include a panel discussion. The panel will include an attorney and certified public accountant specializing in eldercare as well as a geriatric care manager. The panel will discuss the role of accountant in dealing with eldercare issues.

Trish Colucci is a Certified Aging Life Care Professional at Peace Aging Care Experts, LLC in Flanders, NJ. She is a Registered Nurse (RN) and has numerous certifications in Gerontological nursing care. Before starting Peace Aging Care Experts, LLC she worked in many areas of health care including hospitals, nursing homes, medical offices and home care. She also worked as an insurance case manager for individuals with catastrophic injuries and life-threatening illnesses. It was this combination of nursing and insurance case management that made her uniquely qualified to start her own care management agency.

Her favorite part of being a care manager is working directly with elderly and disabled clients. Each person has an interesting story and unique needs. She loves finding the right place in each client’s life, identifying their needs and using her skills and compassion to create a care plan to make things better.

Ms. Colucci is a graduate of the College of Saint Elizabeth.

Jody Rorick, CPA, is the owner of the firm, Jody Rorick, CPA. She started her business 15 years ago and her clientele has since steadily grown by referral and word-of-mouth. Her firm specializes in elder care and daily money management services, which includes sorting and reviewing mail, bill paying, budgeting, setting up files, balancing checkbooks, tracking investments and insurance claim follow-up, as well as assistance with income tax preparation, estate and financial planning, and settling estates. Before becoming a “financial housekeeper,” Ms. Rorick worked at Arthur Young and Company and Citibank. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants, the National Association of Women Business Owners and the American Association of Daily Money Managers. Ms. Rorick has held numerous volunteer positions for the NJSCPA; currently she is on the Financial Literacy Committee and serves as a state-level trustee and as immediate past president of the Monmouth/Ocean Chapter. She is the founder of the chapter’s Elder Care Committee and has formed a “Women’s CPA” group. Ms. Rorick has a bachelor’s in English and an M.B.A. in accounting from the Rutgers School of Management.

By creating the most efficient organizational structures and contractual arrangements during the infancy and growth of a business she has helped clients keep hundreds of thousands of dollars in their pockets upon the sale of the mature business. To educate both the public and the legal community about issues relating to business ownerships, Ms. Wheatley-Liss is a frequent lecturer to professionals and the public on topics related to start-up, intellectual property, employee and independent contractor issues, wealth transfer, tax minimization, business succession planning and cybersecurity.
