Welcome and Introduction
Joanna Marek, CPA - Smolin Lupin, Essex Chapter President

8:35-9:30am
New York State Tax Update
Joseph N. Endres, Esq. - Hodgson Russ LLP
A residency audit is designed to determine whether you were correct in filing your New York personal income tax return as a nonresident or part-year resident or, instead, should have filed as a resident. Because New York residents are subject to tax on their worldwide income while nonresidents are subject to tax only on the portion of their income attributable to ("sourced to") New York, the difference in tax liability can be significant, particularly if you have substantial investment income. Explore the intricacies during this session.

9:30-10:30am
Federal and New Jersey Estate & Gift Tax
Brian D. Reynolds, J.D., LL.M. - Mantell, Prince & Reynolds, P.C.
The estate tax and generation-skipping transfer tax have returned, and the gift tax is again unified with the estate tax. Changes in the transfer tax under new law are mirrored in the compliance requirements. Learn how to prepare Forms 706 and 709 in these circumstances.

10:30-11:00am
Break and Exhibitors

11:00am-12:00pm
Foreign Tax Compliance
Parag P. Patel, Esq. - Parag P. Patel. Esq.
As your clients become increasingly global in their employment, investment, and retirement opportunities, their tax exposure becomes more complex, placing expectations on you to guide them through the multinational tax matrix. Learn about the tax issues facing U.S. citizens living overseas and foreign nationals living in the United States.

12:00-1:15pm
New Jersey Division of Taxation Update
Alexis DeRosa - New Jersey Division of Taxation
Hear the recent legislative and administrative news and what you need to know for the 2016 filing season. Additionally, discuss what the Division is doing in the world of fraud prevention.
